New Canaan EMS just took delivery of their new medic response vehicle, Car 350, a 2008 SSV Expedition outfitted by Specialty Warning Systems of Danbury, CT.. The warning system is almost 100% LED based, with a 55 inch Whelen FX Freedom lightbar in front and Mini Freedom above the rear doors. Additional lighting is provided by two 400 linear Super LEDs and two TIR6 LEDs mounted on a Go Rhino pushbumper, a four head Dominator in the rear window and four 400 LEDs mounted on each outside corner. Four TIR3 LEDs were installed inside the cargo compartment to provide supplemental rearward protection when the cargo door is raised. A headlight flasher and four HideAway strobes in the rear tailights, complete the system which is controlled by a Whelen A6 lighting and siren controller.
In addition to providing a mounting platform for lighting and siren components, the Go Rhino pushbumper also affords front end impact protection and easier access to the engine compartment for future service and maintenance.
The cargo compartment carries a custom storage cabinet to contain the ALS and BLS response gear in use by New Canaan. Overhead lighting fixtures inside the cargo compartment provide extra visbility at night for equipment checks and retrieval on calls, while dual halogen floodlights mounted under the rear significantly increase the amount of available light when the vehicle is placed in reverse. A Setina cargo barrier provides equipment containment protection in the event of a collision. A dual glove box holder, lockable narcotics cabinet, fire extinguisher and two rechargeable handlights (both on custom mounts) complete the cargo compartment.
In the front, a 30 inch Havis-Shields console contains the Whelen controller, two Motorola XTL2500 radios, 6 inch storage box, dual 12V power points, cup holders, armrest and two Motorola portable radio chargers. A Magellan GPS and handheld spotlight are both mounted off the passenger side of the console while a Panasonic tablet computer was installed off the rear.
A Kussmaul system with shoreline Auto Eject maintains battery condition and provides 110V inside the vehicle while parked in house. A custom graphics package finishes the outside of the vehicle.
SPECIALTY WARNING SYSTEMS THANKS TO THE NEW CANAAN EMS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE THEIR NEW ALS VEHICLE........
